Alison R. Bernstein Media Mentoring Program

Mentees gathered in New York City for a program orientation and the opportunity to peer-to-peer network. Participants had the opportunity to meet and receive insights from Geraldine Laybourne, co-founder of Oxygen Media and former president of Disney/ABC Cable Networks.

“The Opening Reception exceeded my expectations. I was blown away by the guest speaker, Geraldine Laybourne. Her insight and breadth of experience is so inspiring. I found it incredibly beneficial to hear from her, since she has done much of what I hope to accomplish in my career.” -Jennifer Schwartz, 2010 alumna

Carol Jenkins, Emmy Award-winning former television journalist and founding president of the Women’s Media Center, spoke about the future of journalism.

“The Carol Jenkins check-in event was encouraging. I loved how a majority of her career was based on “firsts” and fearlessness. She was very honest about her journey and what she went through, and I feel that speakers need to share that history in order for their audience to truly understand what they are signing up for and what they have to look forward to.”
– Tamiyah Yancey, 2012 alumna

The 2015-16 mentors and mentees pose for a picture with Gloria Steinem during a private reception and conversation in New York City.

“The event with Gloria Steinem was phenomenal! I have never gained more insight in such a short amount of time. I was writing notes all the way home to remember everything.”
-Amanda Gomez, 2013 alumna

Michele Promaulayko, former Editor-in-Chief of Yahoo Health and mentor in the program, spoke to mentees about ways to build an online presence and promoting your personal brand.
