Center for American Women and Politics
The Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), established in 1971 at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers, is a leading authority in its field and a respected bridge between the academic and political worlds. Its mission is to promote greater knowledge and understanding about women's participation in politics and government and to enhance women's influence and leadership in public life. The Center compiles information about women in government and politics, monitoring and analyzing the status and prospects of those women. CAWP raises and responds to emerging issues, working daily with women leaders as well as journalists, scholars, students, women's groups, governmental agencies, civic organizations, political parties, and the general public.
CAWP’s programs include: research about women as candidates, officeholders and voters; dissemination of information about women’s political participation through an award-winning website and a variety of publications; educational programs for women officeholders; public leadership education for college and high school students; campaign training for potential candidates; development of model education and training programs for use in other states and institutions.
