Women, Media, and Technology

In partnership with the School of Communication and Information and the Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, the Institute for Women’s Leadership launched the Women, Media, and Tech Initiative to examine the ways media, including information technology and digital media, are reshaping culture and power relations in the world.

This initiative features the Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair in Media, Culture, and Feminist Studies along with programs, events, and educational opportunities to examine the relationships of media technologies to democracy, social change, gender/racial equality, and public policy.

The Gender and Media Minor

The Gender and Media minor is the first-ever opportunity at Rutgers to explore gender and the media in one interdisciplinary course of study.  The minor, an IWL Consortium and SC&I initiative, is a partnership between the School of Communications and Information (SC&I) and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies. This innovative minor challenges students to learn how to use media to impact a culture that is highly reflective of mass media viewpoints.
